Don't diss Party Arty! It doesn't matter if he's a shit rapper, that song is amazing, most of all it's a coherant song, which is something that is missing from the majority of Hip Hop. There are loads of great rappers rapping over great beats, but there's a surprising lack of songs in Hip Hop. 93 till infinity is a song. Gangstarr made songs (I think a rapper producer combo make much more songs, than a guy that raps over any of dudes beats.) That tune is perfect, not in the sense that it's the best song ever but it perfectly achieves what it sets out to do. His rapping is completely without ego or bravado, he is eloquent. The melancoly of the beat has an uplifting beauty that is totally in sync with the lyrics. It's sad and beautiful in perfect measure, beat and vocals, it's a rare thing.

  1. I've always felt that about songs vs a rap over a beat, which is why Blazing Arrow really blew my mind at the time as it was the first time I think I had heard a proper hip hop album of songs. Still love it.

Also someone rapping over their own beats is a good recipe for proper songs. One of the reasons I love Insight and Edan so much.

  2. I agree, i was also gonna use DOOM as an example. It works with bands too (as oppose to a collabo) like blackalcious and gangstarr., people who know each other basically. I also forgot to mention, in this instance his pace and delivery also fit perfectly too. I don't think this tune is on any album though..

Gonna have to dig out blazing arrow. Whsat's up with blackalicious...

  3. The beat is Paul Nice, I have it on Journey To The Centre Of The Beats. I never said the tune was bad I only stated that he's a turd.
