“Jazz Café proudly presents ROY AYERS AND PETE ROCK’s new collaborative project”
This groundbreaking project is the first of it's kind – jazz genius Roy Ayers performing with a Hip Hop/DJ legend PETE ROCK – in a Live band/DJ / Mc format. The show will feature exciting rendition’s of Roy's most celebrated hits – Everybody Loves the Sunshine, We live in Brooklyn, and many others – with Pete Rock sampling Roy's music and adding more hip hop flavor with his beats and rhymes.
One of the most visible and winning jazz vibraphonists of the 1960s, then an R&B bandleader in the 1970s and '80s, Roy Ayers' reputation is now that of one of the prophets of jazz funk, Ayers' own playing has always been rooted in hard bop: crisp, lyrical, rhythmically resilient." Pete Rock has pioneered the fusing of jazz, funk and soul into hip-hop, laying down the blueprint for beautiful soulful production in hip-hop. He revolutionized rap production through groundbreaking studio wizardry, most notably in his collaboration with CL Smooth in the 90's. He made remixes matter more than the original songs. He established ad-libs as a standard recording asset. Naturally he is well suited to approach the music of Roy Ayers with his 'Midas Touch'. Far from a wallflower, Pete is revolutionizing Roy's music and applying his own wizardry to the material to bring out new sounds, new flavors, and a whole new approach to the fusion of Jazz and Hip Hop
This is truly a meeting of minds, a show not to be missed, as it is history in the making and re-making in front of your eyes.
