Hey my list of most heard songs is gonna be a list of real dirge. I think the most heard one is that fucking Party rock anthem by Lmfao. It’s everywhere, it was huge in Vietnam and Britain, while I was home. It’s inescapable. And shit. Second is probablyon the floor by J-Lo, again it was just everywhere, I was amazed at the distribution/marketing of this song. Within a week of it being on American idol it was all over Vietnam, I even heard it in shitty villages in buttfuck nowhere, the real sticks, fuck knows how they manage that. I have heard this song in 4 different countries too.Third is probably not a song but that turd in a gay ass suit, Pitbull.The most un-pitble like man on the planet, whenever I hear a song and think, ‘this is shit’ shitbull drops a verse. Then it’s the lambada/happy birthday that trucks play when they reverse here.As for songs I’ve bumped a lot, I can and have listened to this any time, I love it
I could have picked one of a few Bronson tunes, I’ve listened to him a shitload this year,
I want you guys to post a list of your 'most heard' 12 tunes of the year. Not the tunes you rate the most but have heard over and over again on the radio or listened to over & over again. They don't have to be from this year. Unfortunately mine would probably include the call of duty lobby music and most of that kanye album that was stuck in my CD drive in my car for months. Peace
Hey guys.. Round 2 of the beat battle between me and Mark is about to go up on here in the next day or so!
In the meantime, though I'm not in the habit of posting my beats on here, I made this one evening as a little break from the stresses of competition and I was pretty pleased with how it turned out so I thought I'd stick it on here..
This one makes a lot more sense, more of a nod to Nas than a reworking/tribute. nice beat too.
Quick note to say that Nas album is well worth a DL, there is a link to a word document that has the link to the album in it in the youtube comments/description bit. (of the deja vu vid posted below)
and I struck gold with this, i thought it was pete rock, but it's produced by some unknown dude called chriss western or something, this should be on illmatic, he recorded it after Illmatic, it's as good as the stuff on illmatic
After posting Back to the grill again a while ago, I thought it would be a good idea to find any Nas stuff from the Illmatic era, thinking he might be as amazing as he was on that album, featuiring or guesting on other songs. i was wrong. Apart from Back to the grill, after illmatic he did some shit guest spots, this forgetable effort from the dream team of Kool G rap and Nas is only worth posting for the fucking up of their gangster handshake at about 0.15 seconds
Another (much later 1999)Dream team pairing of Nas and Slick rick is okay, I, like you I assume have heard this song a shit load of times but I didn't ever pay attention to the rapping. Nas is appalling on this tune, I was shocked when I payed attention to his lyrics. Also when listening to the art of story telling, I always get the impression that slick rick is a bender. He always mentions gay blokes, likes going straight to the butthole an is a rapist. All very gay traits. Also, I think the persecution lawyers at his rape trial should have just played adults only to the jury. lyrics like this just make it seem like he's more interested in blokes than women,
And when I step into a room, pimps hide they hoes
"Is that really him?" "Yes, that's his Highness
and for the last time stop lookin at his fine ass"
(Y'know!) Homosexuals, smirk, converse and say
"That nigga box is WORKIN girlfriend!"
So during illmatic Nas guested on cuban links with his pitch perfect verse on Verbal intercourse, drops another shit hot verse on Mobb deep's Eye for an eye. I actually like the rapping on this, 'one on one' - from the street fighter soundtrack, the beat is pretty soft though, in drastic need of a remix.
He also did 2 tracks on AZ's do or die. I really like AZ's flow, I haven't given either of these tunes a good airing, though I have Dl'd this album, it's meant to be a classic, I'll give it a spin and let you know what I think. Gimmie yoursand
damit now everything is big. So, a pretty inconclusive and confused post, there's not alot of other great nas stuff out there that we didn't already know about.
also what the fuck is elhzi doing with his nas tribute stuff? I can't think of a single reason why it might be a good idea, it's lame...
Check the link to see the art work for a tee shirt that I'm sure you're all like: http://www.dailydiggers.com/2011/12/most-of-my-heroes-dont-appear-on-no.html
Has anyone got this album yet? here's ghostfaces review of it, here's what he likes;
9. Who Gon Stop Me – Now THIS shit is a problem yo. When it started the god was like ok cool….you kno…I was enjoyin it….the bassline was soundin like a lion growlin n shit. There wasa ill mood to it. Im diggin the joint namsayin….but then it starts really transformin into a monster after a couple minutes….n its like yo…we got a serious contender for best song on the album now. By the middle it sounds like niggas is drivin Lamborghinis around in the studio n drums is hittin like automatic weapons. I love this track son.
Heres's what he doesn't;
2. Lift Off (ft. Beyonce) – I almost aint wanna even comment on this shit son…. I dont even kno what to say bout it yo. This shit sounds like the anthem the fairies in Ferngully would use to go to war against evil humans to or some shit b. This shit is like Shia LeBeouf in song form yo. Lissenin to this shit is like havin ya ears penetrated by a million microscopic dicks namsayin. Shit sounds like niggas doin aerobics on a magical cloud of daisies. How many meadows did Kanye cartwheel across before he decided to make this beat? Seriously yo…. Jus how many lily pads did the nigga skip across the pond on before he got inspired to make some shit like this? Definitely one a the worst songs Jay ever been involved in…thats includin those lame joints off Vol 3 wit Amil n Mariah or the worst songs off Kingdom Come….EVEN the Timbo joints off Blueprint 3. Like this joint is SOFT son. Guess thats why Jay only spit like 5 n a half bars on it. Its like the song Yung Berg would play before he goes n commits his latest string of L’s. Shit is jus terrible son…especially since it took like 6 niggas to produce this muthafucka.
11. Made In America (ft. Frank Ocean) – First of all son….Lionel Richie called from 1986 n said he wants his song back yo. Word. Sade jus holla’d on twitter to say this shit is soft as fuck namsayin. I think Elton John wants to conceive babies to this joint b. Drake said he gon soak in his lotion pool to this shit rite here for like a week son. I think Wiz Khagina is scissorin wit Amber Rose to this shit rite now as we speak yo. I heard this shit gon be used for the next Gwyneth Paltrow movie too. I dont kno how the same nigga that did Who Gon Stop Me had anything to do wit this shit but apparently he did nahmean. This shit sounds like two niggas hang glidin over the ocean together at sunset holdin hands son. I think this is bout to be on Yung Berg’s yoga playlist. I cant fuck wit this shit at all b. This shit is like audio lesbian comin out my speakers son.
Not had some preemo on here for a while, I read that this is the first Nas/preemo tune since 2001, that can't be right...
Don't diss Party Arty! It doesn't matter if he's a shit rapper, that song is amazing, most of all it's a coherant song, which is something that is missing from the majority of Hip Hop. There are loads of great rappers rapping over great beats, but there's a surprising lack of songs in Hip Hop. 93 till infinity is a song. Gangstarr made songs (I think a rapper producer combo make much more songs, than a guy that raps over any of dudes beats.) That tune is perfect, not in the sense that it's the best song ever but it perfectly achieves what it sets out to do. His rapping is completely without ego or bravado, he is eloquent. The melancoly of the beat has an uplifting beauty that is totally in sync with the lyrics. It's sad and beautiful in perfect measure, beat and vocals, it's a rare thing.
By the late ‘90s, a depressed J-Swift had disappeared from the music scene and turned to sniffing coke before graduating to crack. He lost his studio and was introduced to the streets. These hard times are candidly shown in director (and J’s longtime friend) Shauna Garr’s documentary 1 More Hit, which features such taglines as, “From hip hop visionary to homeless in Hollywood.” and "1 More Hit: Every Great Musician Needs One". 1 More Hit was completed in October 2011 and will be released digitally in December of 2011.
Holler suckas. Jr liked that Justo song. Party Arty is a bit of a turd that's def his best rhyme he basically partied too hard and couldn't handle life. He's on Show Biz & AG Goodfellas and a few other tracks I have. I've downloaded that Action and enjoying it loads. I'm soooo angry at the mo Forest are loosing 0-3 to leeds!! Ahhh
This is what I've been listening to lately a bit eclectic.
People under the Stairs real nice tune. You'll recognize the beat. Sorry I could only find on Jap Youtube so here's the link make sure you listen.
http://www.nicozon.net/watch/sm15781148
Gotye - great vid & nice tune
Julio Bashmore - House tune more for AK than Jr. From Bristol but I really like this.
M83- A bit MGMT like but great
Machine Head - New Album enough said
Foreign Exchange (Nicolay & Phonte) - A bit R& B but love Nicolay's beats
Desire - Really like her album
Wilson Simonal - Nem vem que não tem - Just awesome
This is an awesome video James posted on neverland ages ago. It has the great Edan 'cutting and scratching' (sharking and gunning) bit in it. I love the song/rapper and video at about 7 mins in. I guess it's called 'everyday' who is this rapper???
No, keep posting away Ak the more, the merrier. that is a really gay phrase, but i'm letting myself slide.
Here's another classic I didn't know the name of till recently
I've been meaning to cop it for a while but I finally got Oh No - Dr. No's Oxperiment. Basically his version of the Beat Konducta.
This beat here is fucking amazing; would love to hear someone spitting over it. There's some other great stuff on the album too: Oh No - Action (I started in the middle itentionally because it's some cut together someone's done of MAdlib and Oh No.. yeah that's how good this beat is that I'm skipping Madlib to get you to it)
Ahhhhhhh I'm boozed, got the Job so everything is Gravy. Ak loved that Action Bronsen I was going to tell y'all about that but you beat me to it but it was awesome, listened to it about 10 times! Well not as awesome as me... JR you alive?
Torae "For The Record" M.E.D. (Medaphoar) "Classic" Black Milk & Danny Brown "Black And Brown" People Under The Stairs "Highlighter" Jedi Mind Tricks "Violence Begets Violence" Mayer Hawthorne "How Do You Do" Away Team "Scars & Stripes" Exile "4 Trk Mind" DJ Shadow "The Less You Know, The Better" RJD2 & Aaron Livingston (Icebird) "The Abandoned Lullaby" Roots Manuva "4everevolution" Freestyle Fellowship "The Promise"
Great list James. This song was pretty low down in the list, It's hilarious because the song is a dialog of flirty banter between Positive K and a honey. It appears as though the K man doesn't actually know any girls cause he puts some terrible effects on his own voice and acts as the honey, can't believe he thought this would fly...
Real great list of the top tracks from 1990s. Some great tunes in there inc.
I Got 5 on it, Renegade Snares (Foul Play VIP mix) Mind Playing Tricks on Me 93 til infinity Passin me by Bellbottoms Shook Ones Pt II They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.) Closer
Hey, really enjoying the beat battle,though I am thoughrily confused by which beats are from where; like, you both made beats from the same records, but which are the comparable beats? Also could we hear the original tunes. I really liked stolen sweets.
Ak no problem on the site for me today, however, the mixcloud bits aren't working right now.
Also thanks to my awesome gambling and depending on Arsenals result tonight I may be able to afford to come up to big smoke for the Ghost and Doom show, Decided I can't miss it, it's 2 of my top 5 mc's and I'm hoping a bit of professional competition will bring out the best in each other, and Ghost does Alex's stolen script. So, whose with me? it's nov 5 here
http://www.soundcrashmusic.com/doom-vs-ghostface/
This track was made from the same records as Hard Work
I don't have the other with me here in Purley; wwill edit this post and put it in when I'm back in Dulwich.
Also, something on this site is totally fucking with my browser. Is anyone else having problems with stalling/not loading/crashing plugins? I'm guessing it's either the vimeo vid or mixcloud because it's only started happening recently, but is it just for me?
Hey Ak here's that Maya Jane coles mix good for the gym. Although it does starts with a little interview with her and she sounds like a 15 year old... also the 'essential mix' gets pumped through parts of the mix which makes me think Westwood may have got hold of the booth at the BBC station
So here's part 2 of the beat battle - this time I've posted a link to a track I've made from the samples I've scavenged from three rubbish 45's Akhil bought from a charity shop.
Ak also made a song too - where they at, man? - let us know which ones you prefer.
I challenged Akhil to make a song out of the tracks within 3 dusty old LPs. Before giving the records over, I made my own beat from them - peep it and let me know what you think!
I made a few tunes for a beat battle with Akhil, but I can only enter 2 tracks. This is a link to the that didn't make the cut - let me know what you think.
The other two tracks will be uploaded after the unveiling.
A little while back I got the most recent "Rasco Presents" album, "The Minority Report", in the same vein and with a lot of the same faces on it as 20,000 Leagues Under the Streets. There's some real bangers on there; good album overall. This track is one of my favourite beats on the album.
Love that Last Hurrah tune, the beat is tremendous. Cool, video too. though I feel bad for the rapper that is on the TV screen next to a man in the rocking chair, no bitches for you! That one with the dodgy asymetrical haircut has a hideous sounding voice. the beat is of course by Necro, reminding me that he is unbelievable on production at times. So I looked up the Thugstore Cowboy's prod credits to see if I could find any more gems. Just started but this beat is great, (the rapping is not)
I'll post any more if I find them, I have learnt Necro does a lot of beats for shite rappers.
I really liked the beat to that knives tune but I'm not really feeling the singing. Video's pretty cool too.
More from diggin in my personal crates, My favourite man to ever pick up a guitar, Jon spencer, the first is an awesome song with an okay vid the second is an unbelievable live set from some shit staurday morning auzzie TV show,
Gorki's Zygotic Mynci - Patio song, worst youtube video ever but Jmaes can learn some welsh, from the album barafundle - a place we may go to this weekend,
Evidence "Cats & Dogs" J-Live "S.P.T.A. (Said Person of That Ability) + Undivided Attention" 9th Wonder "The Wonder Years" Phonte (Little Brother) "Charity Starts At Home" Blu "Open" Spank Rock "Everything Is Boring & Everyone Is a Fucking Liar" Apathy "Honkey Kong" Lostribe "Sophie" Game "The R.E.D. Album" Jay-Z & Kanye West "Watch The Throne" Cool Kids "When Fish Ride Bicycles" Ski Beatz "24 Hour Karate School Part 2"
I really like this Album to think he was going to pack up after putting this out. Glad he didn't as I enjoyed seeing him with Ed O. Still don't understand the glove.
I've posted the original below which is Willie Hutch. I have a couple of his albums, it's on my phone JR so I'll bring down.
Yo didn't know if you had heard of Dj Mehdi but he died the other day he was a pioneer of what became the French Hip Hop scene including production for Mc Solaar & the 311 crew. I've posted two tunes he was involved in below (Not hip hop). One of them is hilarious with the French rude boys with their cars, tune not so great. I'd never seen the video until the other day.
JR good idea about Classic Albums, I'll get thinking, the list will be long. Binny love that LL tune, I've e-mailed Rap and soul to see if they are getting any copies as it's pretty limited. The cover is cool too. The only place I can seem to find it at is this german shop for £20 (Shipping etc) although I have ordered some T-shirts from them before and they were great.
I've posted some Submotion Orchestra below too. I've been enjoying them lately but didn't manage to catch them at Outlook festival. I could only describe them as chilled dubstep. Pharoahe Monch was great there & Foreign Beggars. Got some good stories.
Peace out.
Oh yeah watched a great film the other day called Boy a Kiwi film def. worth a DL.
Hey at home I've been just throwing on old albums without even looking at what they are and this old Jedi Minds album really stands the test of time. My CD is scratched to fuck, So this is just a heads up to give it a spin if you haven't in while. If Vinnie Paz can't ruin an album it must be good; I choose this song because it is the most scrathed on my CD (and it's tremendous)
We could do with a stunts and cunts classic albums/hall of fame deal really, well I've labelled this classic so thats that.
Also that mormon show is only availbale as an audio cd (or going to see it on broadway) but that song is a stand out there are some funny moments. you can DL it here
Back in 1994 K-Def was working on some beats out of the B Room in Marley Marl’s House Of Hits when LL Cool J walked in on his session and said “let’s make some tracks together”. Uncle L had always wanted to rhyme on a track using the famous ESG breakbeat ‘UFO’, so he had Def lay it down with some scratches and then went to town with the mic. Both thought they had a sure fire hit on their hands but unfortunately it was never used.
The DAT tape of the studio session was feared lost for several years before it eventually turned up stuck behind a radiator! Now, 17 years later, K-Def and Slice-of-Spice are proud to present ‘Year Of The Hip Hop’ in all its vinyl glory.
That mormon song is really funny! Have you seen the actual musical? How is it?
This is from Tray Parker and Matt Stone and someone else. It's a musical about a naive young mormon who goes on a missionary to Africa, this is the best tune from it.
I watched Four Lions with my dad tonight on channel 4, that movie is tremendous. I noticed this at the end, really beautiful Piano solo tune by Aphex twin, sampled by Kanye
Jmaes can you please email or call me or akhil or probably Geoff to talk about your plans to come to wales before the end of your holiday, need to talk to you asap so we can book you a place to stay.
I will need to contact the welsh embassy about letting you into our glorious country to due to your flagrant anti-welsh attitude.
Yo this guy is the G.O.A.T. Ak has heard him. Introduced to us by Barry so you know he's gonna be great.
JR I'll give you a call in a week or so sorry I've been hella hectic applying for a job, sorting house shit, boating & I'm off to Germany, Slovenia & outlook festival in Croatia early tomorrow morn. Bin you stink I offered you a free ticket to Outlook & you can't come because of another wedding. Although you have been replaced by two dfemales. Peace
I went back to that list... I checked out Luck-One - True Theory.
It has its moments, some really good moments at that, but overall is a bit too conscious / earnest really. It's a shame because he's definitely a talented guy. Also I couldn't find a free download of the album so I checked out a few tracks on Youtube and really enjoyed them, so bought a digital download and the album didn't really live up to what I'd heard. Here's some of that good shit though, and we'll see if the album grows on me more in time -
Yo, ain't posted in ages been on holiday. I hospital now, I haven't come across any new music at all since I dl'd Action bronson and Neek/large pro. Both awesome. you guys heard anything else on that list that AK posted. Lets check out an album each and report back on it. Well I will anyway. i'm DL'ing Co$$ before I awoke,
Meanwhile, of course you know this song but I've just seen the video for the first time. It's awesome, badass dancing and some genuine lols;
Here's Ghostfunk. I only listened to one track so far, but I've got it downloading.
Tbh, listening to all those other mashups just made me stick on 36 Chambers and listen to that anyway.
(Listening a bit more now, just thought I would note, these are proper remixes using some really cool african funk tracks not just straight blends. I'm really enjoying it)
Hey I've only listened to that mixtape once or twice I wasn't really sold. I'll give it another spin though, I liked the fear of God single though. Did you know malice has found religion and is releasing or has released a book. Didn't like that wu mash up at all, it sounded to me like the wu over that beth ditto (very fat singer from a band I've forgotten) hit single. When it comes to Wu mash ups there is so much crap out there. The best of them by a country mile are the
'Enter The Magical Mystery Chambers' by Tom Caruan. He's not just shoved Wu over a Beatles tune but he's made some amazing beats from Beatles stuff and put some choice WU over them.
check out the C.R.E.A.M remix too, it's great, I can't post it here for some reason.
Cool tune, posted cause it has a verse from Nasty Nas during his period of being the greatest to hold a mike. Damn he fell off, he has occasional glimpses but, why couldn't he have stayed this good?
Hey, awesome posts James, it's cool to hear ghost and brosoneli on the same track. While we're on a Ghostface tip here is his Dove advert....
Had a look at that list you posted Ak, there's a lot on there I have never heard of. DL'd Neek the exotic and Action Bronson albums, haven't checked them out yet. I'll prob download casual's album too aside from that any recommendations?
Uses the sample from Ex to the next, this is tremendous old school hip hop, heard it on a mkixtape somewhere. check out the top rated comment, it appears he was on americas most wanted list for a while!
edit;
it is the sample from ex to the next
edit again;
check out the video @ 3.01 his pose to show him putting his moves on that girl are amazing, i'm wet.
This song is playing at the start of curren$y's latest video (#jetsgo), it's tremedous. I couldbn't find a wiki about her or anything. I did find this;
Penny Goodwin: Portrait of a Gemini (1974)
A legendary bit of jazzy soul recorded by Penny Goodwin, an obscure female singer from Milwaukee. Penny has a warm style that is pretty darn nice on its own, but it's made even better by the great arranger Richard Evan, who helped out a lot on the session, along with Phil Upchurch (G), and Morris Jennings (Ds). The feel is very much in the Chicago sophisti-soul mode and, at times, the record sounds a lot like Marlena Shaw's best work in the '70s, particularly her sides for Blue Note in the early part of the decade. Originally released on a Milwaukie Label, only 2000 copies were Pressed. Used vinyl copies of the original Portrait of a Gemini album were going for five hundred dollars in the collectors market at one point. It includes the great original 'Too Soon You're Old' - a jazz dance classic for many years - plus a stellar cover of Gil Scott Heron's 'Lady Day & John Coltrane', and the tracks 'He's Come Back', 'Amazing Grace', 'Slow Hot Wind', 'Today Is the First Day' and 'Rain Sometimes'. It also features a has-to-be-heard-to-be-believed version of Marvin Gaye's 'What's Goin' On'. http://www.dustygroove.com/, http://www.amazon.com/
